Elements
Dominic Harris’ Elements explores the delicate equilibrium of the natural world through a display of dynamic butterflies displayed on a grand scale. This work underscores the importance of respecting and preserving the balance of the elements, as each butterfly moves in harmony, reflecting the interconnected forces that shape the known universe.
Throughout history, many cultures have recognized five essential elements—wood, earth, water, fire, and metal—as the building blocks of existence. These elements are not merely opposing forces but are deeply interdependent: Wood stabilizes earth, earth directs water, water quenches fire, fire forges metal, and metal, in turn, carves wood, completing an endless cycle of transformation and balance.
In Elements, Harris meticulously renders each butterfly with precise detail, allowing them to embody the fundamental qualities of their respective element while maintaining his signature artistic elegance. Their synchronized movement reinforces the idea that, while each element has its own distinct nature, they are part of a greater whole—constantly influencing and sustaining one another.
Through this captivating digital display, Harris invites the viewer to reflect on the fragile balance of our world, where creation, growth, transformation and renewal exist in an unending loop. Elements serves as both a visual meditation and a reminder of the fundamental harmony that governs our natural environment.

Context
Elements by Dominic Harris is a digital exploration of the fundamental forces of nature—creation, growth, transformation, and destruction—expressed through the delicate and symbolic form of butterflies. In this collection, each butterfly embodies the essence of its respective element, revealing the beauty and transience of the natural world. Harris, known for his ability to merge technology with organic forms, meticulously crafts each interaction to capture the intrinsic qualities of earth, air, fire, and water. His artistic process, infused with optimism, presents these elements not as mere forces of nature but as evolving entities in perpetual motion. As with his previous works, including Spectrum and NeoBloom, Harris invites viewers to engage with and influence these digital organisms, reinforcing the idea that nature and transformation are deeply intertwined. Elements is a meditation on the cyclical nature of existence, where destruction paves the way for renewal, and beauty is found in perpetual change.
