Reflex 1

2013
An illuminated piece inspired by geometry and patterns.

This is part of a larger artwork. See the full artwork series:

Reflex 1 is an experimental artwork that captures complex three-dimensional forms within lasered blocks of edge illuminated glass. Inspired by intricate lace patterns and geometric forms, Harris sought to explore the natural design evolution of early Belgium lace embroideries and weaving.

Lace is renowned for its perfection and beauty. Often referred to an 'industry of fancy goods', the manufacture of lace and its 500 year ancestry, demonstrates the essence of sophisticated design. Harris' interests in complex geometries and form married with a passion for light and performative design is realised in this artwork.

Unique for its innovative use of 3D generate geometries that are represented within the solid glass, Reflex 1 offers the viewer a unique glimpse to these forms, which are then illuminated and mirrored to create a depth to capture the fine patterns and detailing.
