"Eclosion" for the Big Egg Hunt
Find out moreEclosion is an egg sculpture designed by Dominic Harris for The Big Egg Hunt 2025. The term “Eclosion” refers to the moment of transformation in nature, often associated with the emergence of new life, such as a butterfly from a cocoon.
Eclosion is about contrast and connection: the deep blue vs. the radiant gold, the smooth form vs. the intricate fractures, the organic butterfly vs. digital precision. It invites the viewer to step closer, engage with transformation, and consider the fragile yet powerful relationship between nature and human intervention.
The Big Egg Hunt itself is a city-wide art trail in London, featuring over 100 large-scale decorated eggs designed by renowned artists and creatives. The event runs from March 24 to April 27, 2025, and is organized by Elephant Family in partnership with Clarence Court. Participants can find and “collect” these eggs using a free app, which offers prizes and special offers along the way. After the event, the eggs will be auctioned to raise funds for Elephant Family’s conservation efforts in South Asia.
Eclosion is on display from 24 March to 27 April 2025 in Covent Garden, and can be found on the Big Egg Hunt app. The egg is being donated by Dominic Harris to the Elephant Family's fundraising auction.
